If there is one thing that Thursday night’s game has shown me it is that it is easy to get greedy quick (at least for me)! Riding high with a 3 goal lead, it almost hurt to see the Wild score their one goal, denying Pavelec his first shut out win of the season. It was ok though, 2 goals in and neither of them a power play, it was an enjoyable game to watch.
Lately it seems as though we have gotten into the habit of only being able to actually score when on the power play. Though it does make our numbers look ‘ok’ in one column, it isn’t very re-assuring for the average fan to look back and see that, even when we do manage to get the shots on goal, we are only scoring when the opposing team is one man down. Thursday night, though, this was like the autumn breeze finally starting to blow in the Deep South …a so very welcome change of pace.
30+ shots on goal (for a second game in a row)
FIVE goals – Eager, Slater, Ladd, Modin – short handed, & Antropov.
Pavelec – got to leave the ice with a win. This is huge for Ondrej, especially after starting this season the way he did. This kid wants to be number one. He wants it with everything he has in him. And Thursday night, he finally got to experience some of that confidence coming back.
BOGO!! Right when I was really starting to get worried about one of our highest hopes, he started coming back! Racking up a game high six shots on goal, I think he is really starting to warm up and get back into the groove.
We are keeping the penalty minutes down. Ramsay is teaching these boys some discipline.
We are back to a point ahead of Carolina and a point away from Tampa. I know this is not a big deal this early into the season, but it is good to see us back in third instead of forth. And only a point away from 2nd has a pretty nice ring to it as well!
And Pavs gets his first win!
