Wow!! What a game! After so many games, walking out, at home hearing that ‘salt in the wound’ chant, tonight, well, tonight we changed the tune just a bit. And the best part was, Ondrej didn’t even have to block 30 shots…from the WASHINGTON CAPITALS.
I don’t know what exactly has taken place behind the scenes in Blueland as of late, but man, tonight was something else. A complete change from Wednesday night’s game…
We now are a team with a Captain. Captain Ladd. Though it was a number of other players that shined on the ice tonight, maybe it was something about Ladd becoming their official leader that helped things out.
Eager and Antro set the tone tonight and while the fans were just getting started in celebrating Antro’s goal, Kane came around with the most wicked of shots, wrapping all the way from behind the net to find the smallest of openings in between Holtby’s legs, ending Holtby’s evening and showing the Capitals that we will stand strong and fight hard to win every chance we get.
The remainder of the evening was pretty uneventful, except for one more goal in the 2nd, scored by Byfuglien and the final goal from Burmistrov in the 3rd.
Tonight I learned just how greedy I could be. Tonight I wanted that shut out just as bad as those boys skating on the ice. Tonight, tonight we got just that. Not only did Ondrej Pavelec show just how good he can guard his goal, grabbing shots from thin air and halting them, but tonight he had his whole team backing him up too. The Washington Capitals were kept to under 30 shots on goal the whole night. Tonight the Atlanta Thrashers graciously gave the Caps their first loss in regulation in 10 games. To ice that cake, we also gave them their first shut out since December of 2009.
The first game of this season started out with Ondrej Pavelec being carried out on a stretcher, tonight he was 1st star…and we chanted his name all the way out the building.
Tonight we ate the hell out of that worm~
