Report: KHL Club Offers Contract to Alexander Burmistrov

KHL club AK Bars Kazan has offered Alexander Burmistrov a contract for next year, despite Burmistrov having one year remaining on his ELC and the 2008 agreement in which the NHL and KHL agreed they’d honor each other’s contracts.

Burmistrov scored 13 goals and had 28 points this year as a 20 year old, but played against some of the weaker competition among Jets forwards and had the second most offensive zone starts among forwards who played 30 games or more.

There are signs for optimism, as he had the third most TOI/60 among forwards on the penalty kill and played well on the PK, with the best Corsi among Jets penalty killers. Burmistrov is still obviously very young and has shown flashes of the skills that led him to be a first round pick.

Burmistrov is originally from Kazan, has played with the team’s 2nd division team and also a game with the KHL team in the past. The Jets haven’t commented on the deal, and I doubt Burmi will leave, but it is something worth keeping an eye on.

Update: Burmistrov’s agent told the Toronto Sun that he’s not going anywhere
