Tobias Enstrom The Latest To Sign In Europe

Winnipeg Jets defenceman, Tobias Enstrom is the latest NHLer to pack up and head overseas to play while the NHL and NHLPA try and sort things out in hopes of agreeing on a new CBA.

Enstrom has agreed to suit up for the EC Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian League, according to the Winnipeg Sun and he could be in the lineup as early as this Friday.  The contract does include an out-clause in the event the league and it’s players settle the work stoppage and NHL action resumes. But with the amount of NHL talent that is suddenly fleeing North America after this last round of botched negotiations, a settlement seems unlikely; at least anytime soon.

Prior to signing in Austria, the Sweden native was working out with Modo of the Swedish Elite League in an effort to remain in top physical condition. And rightfully so given Enstrom recently signed a 5-year contract extension worth $28.75 million this past July.

Last season in Winnipeg, the 27-year old recorded 33 points in 62 games played is sought to be a cornerstone defenceman for the organization to build around.
