Winnipeg had another tough game on Monday as they took on St. Louis on the road. The Jets were in tough coming into St. Louis on the second game of two in a row. Snapping their six game losing streak on Sunday, Winnipeg was looking for two more crucial points.

The game started off typically for a team who had played the night before, the Jets looked tired and didn’t generate too many scoring chances. Andrew Ladd got the best chance for the Jets on a beautiful pass from Ollie Jokinen, but Ryan Miller was able to keep the puck out. Neither team took a penalty in the first period and we headed into the first intermission 0-0.

Brendan Morrow scored the first goal of the game at 1:44 of the second period on a bad play where Montoya was out of his net. Morrow got the puck from Roy and there was nothing Montoya could do. Down 1-0, Winnipeg had to create some offense but were now being out shot 18-12.

Winnipeg tied the game when Eric O’Dell scored at 1:55 for his third goal with the Jets. David Backes and the Blues took over when Backes got his first of the night on the power play at 13:09. Backes added his second and 23rd of the year with an empty net goal at 18:49 and it was basically over for Winnipeg. Things out of hand after an altercation with Jacob Trouba and then everyone’s favorite Maxim Lapierre had to be thrown out.

It was a tough physical battle all night and Winnipeg just couldn’t keep up with St. Louis in the end. If Winnipeg has any chance of grabbing the final wild card spot, this inconsistency will have to come to an end as their hopes keep getting slimmer. The Blues will have an important game in Chicago on Wednesday, while Winnipeg plays host to Colorado also on Wednesday.
