Winnipeg Jets Lose to Dallas Stars 2-1

The Winnipeg Jets were in Dallas on Monday night for another must win game. Losing to Winnipeg 7-2 eight days ago, the Stars were going to be a tough team to beat tonight.

Al Montoya got the start again going against Dallas’ Kari Lehtonen. There would be no easy goals for Winnipeg this game as Lehtonen was in and Dallas was a different team this time.

Dallas got off to a good start in the first period getting a chance early but Montoya made the stop. Ray Whitney opened up the scoring at 5:32 of the first, on a beautiful power play goal. The Jets got their share of chances but Kari Lehtonen stopped all eleven shots in the first to make it 1-0 Dallas at the end of one.

Several shifts in the second period Winnipeg was starting to look tired and were chasing the puck. The Stars needed that second goal and they would eventually get it, again on the power play. Dallas was 2-2 on the power play after Tyler Seguin scored his 32nd of the year on a pass from Chiasson and Benn. Now down 2-0, Winnipeg needed anything but it would head into the intermission with the score 2-0 Dallas.

Frustrated and without captain Andrew Ladd the Jets would need a leader to get them back into this one. Paul Maurice pulled Al Montoya on a Jets 4-3 late in the third and Bryan Little put in his second goal in as many games, the Jets were down one. But the old saying too little is too late would be the case for Winnipeg tonight as playoff hopes were pretty much diminished.

The Jets lose another tough game and are now losers of their last two. On a five game road trip, Winnipeg will be in San Jose Thursday night and Los Angeles Saturday.
