Winnipeg Jets Injury Report: April 2

The Winnipeg Jets beat out the ninth seeded Phoenix Coyotes in a shoot-out last night. The Jets won the game with a semi-depleted line-up, albeit mostly irrelevant at this point.  The Jets sit at 78 points, 7 points out of the last wild card spot and only 5 games left in the season. Although they are not mathematically out of the hunt, its time for the fans of Winnipeg to adjust to the thought of no NHL Playoff hockey in the city – at least for this year. Here is what the injury report looks like heading into the last five games of this tragic season:

  • Zach Bogosian has continued his injury filled year. He missed another game last night with an upper body injury. Bogosian is listed as day-to-day but with only 5 games remaining in the season, it’ll be curious to see how much more playing time Bogosian actually receives.
  • Al Montoya also hit the day-to-day injured list. After making 6 consecutive starts in pivotal games, Montoya finds himself singing a similar tune. Injuries have been a problem for the goalie throughout his career and remain a question mark in regards to his abilitiy to become a bonafied number one goalie – although his numbers do support the suggestion.
  • Chris Thorburn was listed as injured on the 15th of March after blocking a shot. He was listed as out indefinitely, and that prognosis has not improved. Team officials have confirmed that he has in fact suffered a broken foot and with only 5 games remaining – It is likely he has played his last game with the Jets this season.
  • Center Mark Scheifele went down on March 5th.  It’s unlikely that we’ll have Scheifele back at any point in the next 3 weeks. This young man’s health is going to be of the utmost importance to the Jets moving forward. The season inherently fell apart at the seams when Schiefele became injured – proving his relevance on one of our top two lines.
  • Keaton Ellerby will miss some time, but has quietly become a staple on the point for the Jets since being acquired via the waiver wire. He’s amassed a +4 rating and tallied 6 points on the year. He was listed as day-to-day on March 31, 2014 with a lower body injury, doubtful for Thursday’s game against Pittsburgh.

Note: Grant Clitsome is still recovering from successful back surgery and will not see the ice again this year. James Wright was also placed on Injured Reserve – there is no timeline for his return to action.
