Pittsburgh Penguins Defeat The Winnipeg Jets 4-2

The Winnipeg Jets played a decent game against Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night but fell short 4-2. Sidney Crosby led the Penguins with two assists and with a Flyers loss earlier, Pittsburgh clinched the Metropolitan division.

Head coach of the Jets Paul Maurice ended up with a cut on his forehead. A puck went into the bench in the first period and smacked Maurice right in the head. Pittsburgh got on the board first. Just after time had expired on a penalty to Winnipeg, Sidney Crosby found Beau Bennett for an easy goal and the Penguins were on top 1-0.

In the second period, the Jets were able to gain the lead on goals from Ollie Jokinen and Zach Redmond. This was Redmond’s first goal of the 2014 season. Winnipeg took the lead thanks in part to great work by Adam Pardy. On the Jets third goal of the game, Pardy made two slick moves and a nice pass.

Eventually in the third period the talent took over for the Pittsburgh Penguins and enough was enough. The Penguins got a beautiful power play goal from Paul Martin, assists going to James Neal and Sidney Crosby. Now with a two goal lead 4-2, it was going to be tough for Winnipeg to come back. Ondrej Pavelec was pulled for the extra attacker with about 1:30 left, but Winnipeg couldn’t score.

Pittsburgh wins the game 4-2 and Dan Bylsma picked up his 250th win of his career. With just four games remaining on the season, Winnipeg is in Toronto Saturday night and then are back at home on Monday against the Minnesota Wild.
