Winnipeg Jets’ prospect Nic Petan’s Portland Winterhawks fell 4-2 to the Edmonton Oil Kings last night.  The Oil Kings take the series 4 games to 3 and win the Ed Chynoweth Cup.  They will take on the London Knights from the Ontario Hockey League in the next round.

Petan was 4th in playoff scoring with 7 goals and 21 assists for 28 points in 21 games.  He was second in league scoring with 35 goals and 78 assists for 113 points in 63 games only 5 points behind the leader Mitch Holmberg who played 9 more games.  He was tied for the scoring lead in points at 120 last season in 71 games for Portland.  Petan has proven to be a very consistent point producer over the years.

Petan has had 2 great years in Portland and is eligible for one more year of junior.  The high scoring left handed shooting centre is one of the bright spots in the Jets’ system and could be only a year or two away from making the big club.  Petan stands at 5’9” and weighs 173 lbs.  Petan represented Canada at the World Junior Championships this year and scored 4 goals and added 1 assist in 7 games for Canada.  He was second on the team in goal scoring.
