Preview
The Winnipeg Jets are starting to roll now behind the play of goalie Ondrej Pavelec, and forwards Drew Stafford and Blake Wheeler. Pavelec appears to be in line to get yet another start and keep his hot streak going. He has only allowed 5 goals on the past 104 shots he has faced.
Wheeler and Stafford have combined for 16 points over the past 6 games. They have been the catalysts of this suddenly surging Jets offense, which is getting hot at the perfect time while they try to hold off the LA Kings for a playoff spot.
The status of Dustin Byfuglien is still in question for today. After not practicing before Thursday’s game, it seems unlikely that the F/D will be ready to dress against the Capitals. His status is still day-to-day.
Battling the Washington Capitals will be tough, as they are 7th in the league in Goals Allowed at 177. They are led by the play of goalie Braden Holtby and his 2.18 GAA.
What obviously cannot be forgotten is the league’s leading goal scorer – Alex Ovechkin. His 47 goals and 73 total points lead the league and there seems to be no sign of stopping him. How the Jets try to contain him remains to be seen.
The only injury question for the Capitals is D Tim Gleason. He missed last game with an elbow injury, but seems to be on track to play, as the veteran practiced yesterday.
