Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault has been out since February 16 with a lower body injury. However, it seems like he could return, as he resumed skating during Thursday’s practice. Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun hear’s that Perreault hopes he can play as soon as Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Perreault had been a key part of the Jets’ success. He had 18 goals and 18 assists in 56 games before going down with an injury. In a Winnipeg Sun piece by Friesen, he notes that head coach Paul Maurice was concerned from the beginning with this injury because of how vital Perreault is.

“The private conversations in the coaches’ room — we knew we were in some real trouble,” the coach said. “When he went to the wing, he just took off. He had a real good chemistry with Mark Scheifele and whoever the winger was. And he got on the power play… and from that point to the time he got injured we were in the top-five on the power play. He had a major impact.”

With the Winnipeg Jets closing in on a playoff spot, having Perreault back would be huge for the team.
