On February 11, the Winnipeg Jets acquired forward Joel Armia from the Buffalo Sabres along with D Tyler Myers, F Drew Stafford, F Brenden Lemieux and a 1st round pick for F Evander Kane, D Zach Bogosian and G Jason Kasdorf.
Armia, selected 16th overall by Buffalo in 2011, has been a highly regarded prospect. His combination of size (6′ 3”) and goal-scoring will get him a starting spot on the Jets’ roster one day.
Before coming to the Jets, Armia had 10 goals and 15 assists in 33 games for the Rochester Americans. This is a sharp increase from his 7 goals and 20 assists for the AHL club in 2013-14. However, since coming to Winnipeg’s St. John’s IceCaps, the Finnish forward only has 4 assists and no goals in 13 games.
There should not be much concern for Armia, as he has proven that he can produce at the AHL level already. It will be a matter of finding consistency before the Jets call him up. He should see time by next season.
