The Winnipeg Jets were not able to edge the Chicago Blackhawks, who sat ahead of them going into yesterday’s game in the standings (94 to 90 points). Chicago took this one with goals from Patrick Sharp, Jonathon Toews, Andrew Shaw and Brad Richards. Two of these goals were scored in the 3rd period when Winnipeg entered it being up 3-2.

This game was the most goals that goalie Ondrej Pavelec allowed since February 19, when he gave up 4 to the Washington Capitals. However, the confidence in him shouldn’t be rattled, as he had not allowed more than 2 goals during the time span of the February 19 game and last night’s contest. It will be interesting to see if head coach Paul Maurice sticks with Pavelec for tomorrow’s game.

The Jets received a terrific performance from F/D Dustin Byfuglien, who had 2 goals. He already scored one in his first game back last week. They also got another goal out of F Blake Wheeler and a pair of assists from Andrew Ladd.

With this loss, the Jets only have a 2-point lead over the Los Angeles Kings for the final wild card spot. They also trail the Minnesota Wild by 5 points for the first wild card spot. With just a handful of games remaining, every one of them will be key for the Jets to pick up victories and get on the right track heading into April.

The Jets’ next test will be a tough one against one of the Eastern Conference’s best in the New York Rangers. This will take place at 7 PM CT tomorrow night.
