This game between the Winnipeg Jets and the New York Rangers was a close one throughout. Both teams traded goals in the 1st and 2nd periods. Lee Stempniak and Jim Slater scored for Winnipeg, while Mats Zuccarello and Derrick Brassard had goals for New York.
However, in the end, it would be Chris Kreider of the Rangers scoring a late 3rd period goal to give them the victory over the Jets.
This game saw the return of F Bryan Little to the lineup. He had no points, 3 shots on goal and a -1 +/- for the evening. Recently return Dustin Byfuglien was also held off the stat sheet for the first time.
Things continued to not go well for the Jets, as Drew Stafford’s 9 game point streak ended tonight as well. He had been the hottest player for the team lately.
Then there’s Ondrej Pavelec, who allowed 3 goals on 25 shots. This comes one game after allowing 4 goals to the Blackhawks. It seems like his hot streak is over and he has come back down to earth. This is going to be an issue for the Jets if they want to make it into the playoffs with a few amount of games remaining.
The Rangers got plenty of production from their top lines. As noted above, Zuccarello and Brassard both scored for NYR. They also received assists from Rick Nash, Derek Stepan, J.T. Miller, Ryan McDonagh and Keith Yandle.
Goalie Henrik Lundqvist also removed the rust that he showed in his last start. He only allowed 2 goals on 36 shots and looked to be in great form, which is huge for the blue shirts.
Following this game, the Jets won’t play until Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks. It will also mark the final 7 days of their season. Will they be able to make the playoffs?
