During the first round of the NHL Draft at 25th overall the Winnipeg Jets selected John Roslovic. Many people may me asking themselves exactly who is John Roslovic? In the route to getting to know a player one must not just look at the stats, but their personality as well? So who is John Roslovic? Both personally and statistically.

John Roslovic grew up in Columbus, Ohio as a fan of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Roslovic’s favorite NHL player was Alexander Ovechkin and his goal celebration is known as the “Superman.” As far as popular culture goes, Roslovic is a big fan of the Call of Duty games, his favorite actors are Blake Lively and Robert Downey Jr., and his favorite movie is The Wolf of Wall Street. Roslovic is a big fan of the musician Drake and also loves to fish and golf. Being from Ohio, of course Roslovic’s favorite athlete is in fact Lebron James.

During the past 2014-2015 season, Roslovic played with the USA U-18 team. Roslovic played in 57 games with the USA U-18 team and recorded over 25 goals and 52 points for a total of 79 points. Roslovic plays at the Center position, a position that the Winnipeg Jets do not hold great depth at. The Jets’ premier center is Bryan Little who recorded over 52 points last season and Mathieu Perreault who recorded 41 points. After Bryan Little and Mathieu Perreault the Jets third most productive center was Jim Slater who had only 13 points during the past season.

John Roslovic grew up idolizing Jackets’ captain Rick Nash (who plays for the Rangers now), he got many chances to watch Nash and the Jackets play during his childhood as his family had season tickets. With the US under eighteen team he scored eight power-play goals and ranked fourth on the club with 79 points. So where will John Roslovic be playing next season? He will be playing for the Miami University Redhawks during the 2015-2016 season (not Miami, Florida). It may be a couple of seasons before we get to see the young Roslovic in a Jets’ sweater, but with his stats, personality, and the depth that he will bring at the center position, I must say the time he puts on that sweater is a time we should all be looking forward to in Winnipeg.

What do you guys think? Is Roslovic too much of a Blue Jackets fan for your taste? Would you have preferred the Jets to draft someone else in the first round? Comment below and join in on the discussion!
