If you’re a fan of the Winnipeg Jets then chances are you are not exactly the biggest fan of the Arizona Coyotes. Before the Jets returned to Winnipeg via Atlanta the Jets franchise was moved to Phoenix for the 1996-1997 season, robbing Winnipeg of their hockey club. Since the former Jets moved to Arizona how has their franchise compared to the newly spawned Jets franchise?
The Arizona Coyotes have not performed too shabby during their time in Arizona. The Coyotes have made the playoffs 8 out of their 18 seasons making the conference finals once during the 2011-2012 season. The Winnipeg Jets have made the playoffs 1 out of their 4 seasons since returning to Winnipeg.
Percentage wise the Coyotes have made the postseason 0.44 percent out of their 18 season while the Jets have made it 0.25 percent of all their seasons (via Atlanta that is). In their term before moving to Arizona the Jets made the playoffs 11 out of their 17 seasons (0.64 percent). If you were to combine both versions of the Jets franchise (pre-Arizona and post-Atlanta) then they would have made the playoffs 12 out of their 21 seasons (0.57). Percentage wise the Winnipeg Jets have made the postseason more then the Arizona Coyotes (if you count pre-Arizona and post-Atlanta).
Winnipeg Jets
The captains of the Coyotes and Jets are two very well respected and seasoned hockey players.
Shane Doan (current captain of the Arizona Coyotes) is the last remaining (pre-Arizona) Jets player and has played over 19 seasons in the NHL tallying over 368 goals, 530 assists, and over 898 points. Doan has only played with the Jets and Coyotes never taking a journey to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Andrew Ladd (current captain of the Winnipeg Jets) has played for four different NHL clubs during his 11 seasons in the NHL. Over the course of his career Andrew Ladd has tallied 185 goals, 235 assists, and over 42o points. Ladd has played for the Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Thrashers, and Winnipeg Jets. Ladd won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006 and with the Blackhawks in 2010 brining his two championship rings to Winnipeg where he would earn the right to be named Captain.
