Winnipeg Jets Number Eight Prospect: Eric Comrie

We’ve touched on the future between the pipes for the Winnipeg Jets in the past week and one of the pieces to that puzzle is Eric Comrie, who checks in as our #8 prospect in the Jets system.

Comrie had an extremely good junior career with the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans. He often stood tall for the junior team, including a 66-save performance in his final junior hockey game, a losing effort to the Kelowna Rockets in the first round of the WHL playoffs.

Last season, Comrie was also rewarded with a spot on the Canadian Junior team. He would lose the battle as the starting goalie to Zach Fucale but his selection to the team shows the recognition of him as one of the best goaltenders in junior hockey not just last year, but over the course of his career.

As a twenty-year-old this season, Comrie will more than likely play with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose, taking a backseat to Connor Hellebuyck but gaining some playing time as well. With the Winnipeg Jets’ one-two tandem decided heading into this year and Hellebuyck next in line, Comrie will eventually get an opportunity to start in the AHL and at this point in his development, there is no rush.

Standing in at 6’1″, many scouting reports praise Comrie for his size and athleticism. With his first extended look at the professional level upcoming, it will be interesting to watch Comrie this year as he makes the transition to the pro game.
