Winnipeg Jets Number Seven Prospect: Jack Roslovic
There seems to be a common theme among forwards drafted in Kevin Cheveldayoff’s tenure as the general manager of the Winnipeg Jets. He likes two-way forwards with high end offensive potential and the scouting buzzword, high ‘hockey IQ’.
Of course, in general, most prospects are advertised better than the final product often turns out to be but it’s hard not to get excited for a guy like Jack Roslovic, a prospect who possesses the traits above; traits that have been attributed to other successful Cheveldayoff draft picks.

Roslovic has played the last two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. 11 goals and 38 points in just 25 games this year put him on multiple team’s radars, including the Winnipeg Jets, who grabbed him with their second of two first round choices.
Many scouting reports, such as this one, usually start Roslovic’s strengths with his defensive capabilties and work ethic. Scouts also think he might have a little Bryan Little in him, a playmaker first and shooter second, although that label could have to do with who he was surrounded with on the USA development team last year.

That leads us to the one concern some might have with Roslovic. He played on a line last season with two very-likely lottery picks next season in Matthew Tkachuk and Auston Matthews. Playing at a higher level with the University of Miami in the upcoming seasons without two potential top-five draft choices should help answer some of those questions. However, the fact that Roslovic is a two-way player with such a strong defensive game at this stage of his career puts him ahead of many of his other draft peers.
