In our final part of our comparison between the Winnipeg Jets and Arizona Coyotes we will be discussing the stand out coach in the history of both franchises. Which club has been gifted with a coach of extraordinary capabilities? And if both then which club has seen their coach hold a greater impact on their hockey club?
Dave Tippet
We start out with the current coach of the Arizona Coyotes in Dave Tippet. Dave Tippet is the sixth coach of the Arizona Coyotes and the 21st if you count the coaches the club had whilst in Winnipeg. In his first season as coach of the Arizona Coyotes, Tippet saw his club win 50 games and journey to the playoffs for the first time since 2001. The Coyotes held home ice advantage for the first time since moving to Arizona, but would ultimately lose to the Red Wings in the first round. Tipper would win the Jack Adams award in 2009-2010 in his first year with the Coyotes.
Winnipeg Jets
Tippet would lead the Coyotes to the postseason the next two seasons after winning the Jack Adams award. In 2010-2011 he would win 43 games with the Coyotes, but be eliminated in the first round again by the Detroit Red Wings. In 2011-2012 he would win 42 games with the Coyotes and capture their first Pacific Division title in team history, taking the Coyotes all the way to the conference finals where they would lose to the LA Kings. Since their loss in the conference finals, Tippet has missed the playoffs with the Coyotes every year since.

John Paddock
It is debatable who the best coach in the history of the Winnipeg Jets is, so I decided to go with the safe pick in that of the most winning coach in Winnipeg Jets history. John Paddock served as coach of the Winnipeg Jets from 1991-1995 and would lead the Jets to the playoffs in two of those seasons (losing in the first round both times). As coach of the Winnipeg Jets, Paddock would carry a 106-138-37 record in 281 games coached.
While the Jets may have not had the best coaches in NHL history, it is safe to say that Paul Maurice who coached the Jets to the postseason last year might just be on his way to nailing a spot as one of the top coaches in Jets’ history. With the expectations of another and further playoff run this season it might be safe to say that Paul Maurice could be on his way to the top of the Winnipeg goaltending ladder.
What do you guys think? Are Tippet and Paddock the best coaches for both franchises? Do you have a write in? (please be kind if you do) Comment below and join in on the discussion!
