Winnipeg Jets Fly Over: August 20, 2015

It’s possible this becomes a more regular feature as we creep closer to the season and more news about the Winnipeg Jets becomes available. Here’s a round-up of some of the things making news with the Jets today.

  • Nikolaj Ehlers, Josh Morrissey, Connor Hellebuyck, and Nic Petan are among the 40 National Hockey League prospects headed to the place formerly known as Maple Leaf Gardens for the seventh annual NHLPA Rookie Showcase. Which looking at the press release, this doesn’t look like anything other than an opportunity for Upper Deck to get shots of the top prospects for their products. But hey, four Jets in the top 40! Of course, we already know the depth of the Jets prospects pool.
  • Interesting piece via Sportsnet on former Jet Lee Stempniak, who is currently a free agent. Stempniak was acquired from the New York Rangers close to last year’s trade deadline and says he wanted to stay with the Jets in the upcoming season but was told through his agent they wanted to keep spots open for younger players. Which, ya, we probably could’ve guessed but the piece is a good read, including Stempniak’s words for Winnipeg fans (the word awesome is used twice in the first three paragraphs) and what his current status is.
  • The Jets are looking for a freelance photographer for the upcoming season. If you’re in the Winnipeg area and are handy with the camera, here’s the details on how to apply.
