Winnipeg Jets: Predicting The Season Game By Game I

Have you ever wanted to predict your teams season game by game, but found it simply too long to do? Here at Hockey at the Forks we have you covered with your Winnipeg Jets game by game predictions. So why don’t you sit back and take a look at these predictions we have got laid out for you. Will our picks be right? Even spot on? Well, we are not going to know unless we get started. Here today we have your picks for game 1 of the 2015-2016 season with the Winnipeg Jets V. The Boston Bruins.

So lets first take a look at the small things before we dive right into this. The first game of the season starts on October 8th in Boston. So what is the Bruins home record? and what is the Jets away record? The Boston Bruins were 24-10-7 at home last season and the Jets were 20-13-8 on the road last season. It is obvious that Boston holds the advantage playing at home in the season’s first game.

Lets dive right into this now shall we?

The Winnipeg Jets finished 9th in shot attempts (344) last season as opposed to the Boston Bruins who finished 11th in shot attempts (251). In goals against per game the Winnipeg Jets ranked 21st with 2.49 and the Boston Bruins at 23rd with 2.45 (better to be near 30 in this case).

In goals for per game the Winnipeg Jets ranked 16th with 2.72 and the Bruins ranked 23rd with 2.55. In shots per game the Jets ranked 17th with 29.7 and the Bruins ranked 8th with 31.o. Lastly, the Jets ranked 22nd in shots against with 28.7 (its better to be near 30 in this case) and the Bruins ranked 13 with 29.9.

Pretty even huh? Let’s change that.

The Top Scorers for the Jets last season were,

Andrew Ladd going 24-38-62 with a plus/minus of 9

Blake Wheeler going 26-35-61 with a plus/minus of 26

Bryan Little going 24-28-52 with a plus/minus of 8

The Top Scorers for the Bruins last season were,

Patrice Bergeron going 23-32-55 with a plus/minus of 2

Loui Eriksson going 22-25-47 with a plus/minus of 1

Carl Soderberg going 13-31-44 with a plus/minus of 10

Lets finish this up by comparing the goaltending matchup.

Ondrej Pavelec V. Tuukka Rask

Last season Rask played in 70 games going 34-21-13 with a GAA of 2.30 and a save percentage of .922. Last season Pavelec played in 50 games going 22-16-8 with a GAA of 2.28 and save percentage of .920.

So who’s going to win this matchup? There is no doubt that the Jets and Bruins stack up very evenly and that it should be an even matchup. You would have to give the Jets the edge on offense and the Bruins the edge on defense plus the Bruins hold home ice advantage. My predicted score for this game would be 2-1 in favor of the Jets. It should be a tightly fought game that takes us all the way to the last minutes of the 3rd period, but in the end it should be the Jets goal scorers who find away to put one in the back of the net at the most crucial time. Am I putting to much faith in Pavelec? Probably, but I trust the rest of the Jets defense to keep in close while the Jets offense pounds away at Rask.

What do you guys think? Will the Bruins take this one? Or will the Jets get off to a nice start? Comment below and join in on the discussion!
