Winnipeg Jets Finish Young Stars Classic With Win
After recording back-to-back losses to begin the tournament, the Winnipeg Jets closed the Young Stars Classic in Penticton, B.C. with a 5-4 overtime win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.
It was a good day for two guys in the mix for roster spots, Nikolaj Ehlers and Andrew Copp. Ehlers made a nice, no-look pass into the slot where Copp eventually put it in to give the Jets a 1-0 lead. The two hooked up again a few minutes later when Ehlers made a beautiful slap pass to a streaking Copp. Ehlers would record another real nice assist to give him three on the contest and head coach Keith McCambridge said afterwards via winnipegjets.com he “…thought it was his best game.”

It’s way too earlier to really think it but it’s not inconceivable that Ehlers and Copp could wind up playing with each other at some point in the season. The duo combined for a total of eight shots in the game…which, oh yeah.
Josh Morrissey scored for the second straight game to give the Jets a 4-2 lead with under 13 minutes left to play but the Oilers would score twice on Jets goaltender Eric Comrie to send the game into overtime. In a taste of the 3-on-3 hockey we will see this season in the National Hockey League, Scott Kosmachuk scored to give the Jets the win.
Comrie played the whole game and had 32 saves in the victory. The previous day against Vancouver, Connor Hellebuyck played a strong 60 minutes with 38 saves.
That does it for the prospects, many of whom will be at Jets main camp when that kicks off on Friday.
We’ll have stuff throughout the week leading up to training camp and all of the news coming out of the MTS IcePlex.
