Winnipeg Jets Fly Over: September 20, 2015

Winnipeg Jets training camp opened up on Friday. Here are a few items of interest that have emerged over the weekend.

– One of the more notable things to come out of Day 1 of camp was Bryan Little skating on the wing alongside Andrew Ladd and Adam Lowry. As Ryan Dittrick points out on winnipegjets.com, wing isn’t a foreign concept for Little. He’s played it in the past in Atlanta, even scoring 31 goals one year at that position. In the same piece, head coach Paul Maurice says he’s got a few combinations he’s going to try out throughout camp and it appears that Little has some say in the transition, so we’ll see how this plays out before the season.

– Mark Scheifele came to camp at 207 pounds, and as the Winnipeg Sun’s Ted Wyman notes, that’s up from 175 in his first stint with the Jets in 2011. There are a few more interesting items in Wyman’s piece from Day 2 of camp on Saturday, including the fact Nikolaj Ehlers is skating with the ‘veteran’ group at training camp, although Maurice doesn’t want anyone to read too much into that. Of course, there are other questions surrounding Ehlers right now as well.

– The team spent most of Day 2 working on 3-on-3 overtime, says Dittrick. Future Manitoba Moose Andrew MacWilliam is also day-to-day after suffering a foot laceration.

– And Saturday was also Fan Fest at the MTS Iceplex. Here’s some pictures of the event courtesy of the team.

– Garrett Hohl at jetsnation.ca has five storylines for fans to watch during camp.

– Finally, our NHL blog Too Many Men On The Site has the Jets ranked #18 in their initial power rankings. That’s right in line with where a lot of people have the Jets ranked as a borderline playoff team. I would disagree with the evaluation on Alex Burmistrov but certainly, the Jets will need a good year in goal for them to get back into the post-season.
