The Winnipeg Jets announced this afternoon they have re-signed one of their best prospects. JC Lipon was signed to a 1 year deal worth $650k. It’s a two-way deal, meaning he can play with either the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL, or the Manitoba Moose in the AHL for a cheaper price.
Last season JC played 45 games with the Manitoba Moose, and was 8th on the team in scoring with 13 goals 17 assists, good for 30 points. When the Jets were plagued by injuries late last season, Lipon was called up, and played 9 games, registering 1 point.

Lipon will never be a top 9 forward in the NHL, but that’s not what his game is modelled after. He’s the perfect modern day fourth line winger, who will be a great replacement for the aging Chris Thorburn, except he brings more skill, and scoring ability to the table. With a logjam for the final 3 spots on the Jets roster this season, it’s likely Lipon will be the final cut from the Jets roster.
He really does deserve a spot on the Jets fourth line, so we will see if his gritty game, comparable to a Brendan Gallagher on a scoring drought, can crack into the Jets lineup.
