The Winnipeg Jets have quite the prospect pool, and most of them get overlooked. One of those overlooked players is Jan Kostalek.

He is someone who should be talked about, but is not, because there are so many other prospects to talk about.
The six foot one, 2013 fourth round defender is more than just another fish in the pond. He had one goal, eight assists, and nine points in 52 games last season for the Moose. Jan is an amazing defensive defenseman, which is what the Winnipeg Jets need on their roster. He can shut down three-on-one’s, hit like an NHL player, his skating is something else, and he can even set up plays which is amazing for a defensive d-man.
At the Winnipeg Jets prospect camp, he was easily the best player there, that was a defenseman. Him and top prospect Logan Stanley were very impressive, but Kostalek stole the show. He did everything he needed to, and even more.

This year the Winnipeg Jets back end will look something like this:

Byfuglien – Enstrom

Myers – Trouba

Stuart – ???

This is a great chance for Kostalek to lock himself a third pairing spot, right beside Stuart, and if an injury was to occur, possibly on the second line. If he makes it, he could be a very good addition for their penalty kill unit.
Even if he doesn’t make it this year, he could he still play as a replacement for a player who is injured, or who is not performing to standard. Jan Kostalek is a great prospect with great potential, and even if he doesn’t play a game, he still has the tools to be a great player in the future, and hopefully with the Winnipeg Jets organization.
If the Jets end up winning the cup in the years that lie ahead, Kostalek will most likely be a key component to their success.
