Winnipeg Jets: Wheeler and Hellebuyck Selected as 2018 All-Stars
With the Winnipeg Jets currently holding down the second-best record in the Western Conference, there are plenty of possible All-Star nominations. But who would get the nod to represent Winnipeg in Tampa?
The NHL live streamed the All-Star team reveal at 4 pm EST Wednesday. The Winnipeg Jets will have two players going to Tampa Bay:
No Surprises
Blake Wheeler is having a career year so far and could break the 100 point mark if he continues his hot streak in the second half. Connor Hellebuyck has been lights out for the Jet’s this season under the lions share of the workload. Both are solid selections and will play key roles in the Central division team.
Well, Maybe Some Surprises
The real surprise was the lack of inclusion for Patrik Laine. The dynamic winger creates offense and could be one heck of a sniper in an All-Star game. Maybe there was a limit of two players from a team? No, wait, host Tampa Bay has 4 players for the Atlantic division. Maybe the beard quota was full up from Brent Burns?
Yeah, Patrik. We don’t get it either.
A Tough Night to be a Netminder
One has to wonder though, will the 3 on 3 format be rough on Hellebuyck?
“Only Dunlop has seen more rubber than I have” – Dominik Hasek
With the amount of rubber that Connor could potentially see he could steal the show. Or will he come out disheartened if he gives up a lot of goals? Confidence is a goalie’s best asset. But that is the burden of winning an All-Star nod for a goaltender.

It will be interesting to see how both Blake and Connor play into the Skills Competition as well. Regardless, it is sure to be a heck of a weekend for any hockey fan.
