Winnipeg Jets Trade Deadline: San Jose Sharks Needs and Desires

SAN JOSE, CA - JANUARY 23: Aaron Dell

With ‘Jumbo’ Joe Thornton likely out for the remainder of the regular season the San Jose Sharks may be looking for a trade to fill the void.  Do the Winnipeg Jets have the piece the San Jose Sharks might be looking for? And is there anything that San Joe may be willing to part with that the Winnipeg Jets would want?

As of writing this the San Jose Sharks are second in the Pacific; however, their position is more tremulous.  With only three points separating them from sitting outside the playoffs, an extended losing streak could end their playoff hopes.  Toss on the potentially season ending injury to Joe Thorton, that puts the Sharks in a precarious place.

What Fresh Meat do the San Jose Sharks Need

Regardless of the precariousness of their current situation, the San Jose Sharks are likely buyers at the trade deadline.   The Sharks are looking for scoring punch.  This would be to offset the loss of Joe Thorton, and to help their 16th ranked goals per game.

Rumors have surfaced linking the San Jose Sharks to Max Pacioretty, Evander Kane, Mike Hoffman and Rick Nash.  So, the San Jose Sharks are most likely going to be buyers.

Fit with the Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets are chock-full of high end scoring talent from the top line down to the 4th line.  However, the problem is the Winnipeg Jets won’t be giving any of that up since they will be buyers at the NHL Trade Deadline as well.

The San Jose Sharks have prospects and draft picks to offer for trade.  Some of these prospects may be interesting but they are not what the Winnipeg Jets need.  Heck, the Winnipeg Jets have enough quality prospects as is, it will be hard to find a good place for them in the upcoming years.

Prognosis

With the San Jose Sharks looking for looking for forward scoring, the Sharks and Jets needs at the trade deadline are more likely going to be competing.  I doubt you will see a trade here unless exchanging pieces in the minors for some reason.
