The Winnipeg Jets made quite the splash today, acquiring Paul Stastny from the Blues, as an attempt to make a deep playoff run this year. Now they made another splash, acquiring Joe Morrow from the Habs.
The Paul Stastny trade somewhat shocked the hockey world, after the Blues looked like they had a chance for the playoffs. They waived their white flag and they gave up.
The Blues weren’t the only team to give up, as both Montreal and Ottawa had a big sale. The Winnipeg Jets capitalized on Montreal, and picked up Joe Morrow to have some insurance on the back end.
To acquire Morrow, the Jets only had to sacrifice a fourth round pick, which isn’t usually a difference maker. For a guy who could help us near the end, I feel like it was a fair price, maybe even a bit cheap.
Where does Morrow fit in?
Joe Morrow will likely fit in as our seventh defenseman, maybe our sixth if they believe he’s better than Ben Chiarot. I can’t imagine they’ll switch Chiarot and Morrow soon, because Morrow probably could use a few practices with the new team to get everything figured out.
Morrow will definitely get in the lineup, I Ann almost guarantee that we’ll be seeing some players going down due to injuries.
His contract and how long he’ll stick
The Winnipeg Jets don’t have Morrow just to come and go. He’s going to be an RFA this offseason which means the Winnipeg Jets will get him signed up and playing for next season. The only instance where I see Morrow leaving Winnipeg is if he got dealt away at the draft or in the offseason.

Final thoughts
My honest final thoughts on this trade is that Cheveldayoff did a good job. Chevy has a knack for making things work and I didn’t think he’d pull it off this trade deadline. I’m glad he did what he did, and now we move on from here to win.
