Winnipeg Jets Trade Options: Call the Kings
The LA Kings have been struggling a little bit this year. Two spots out of a wild card spot, they could be buyers or sellers. Let’s take a look at what the Winnipeg Jets might want from them.
Nate Thompson
Nate Thompson was acquired by Los Angeles via the Dion Phaneuf trade. He just started playing there and he’s likely not moving again. He has one year left in his contract after this season, so would be like a long term rental.
Thompson isn’t a huge point producer, with only 13 points in 49 games. He’s a depth centerman, but wouldn’t be an “upgrade”. If the Winnipeg Jets were looking to Thompson, it would be because they were worried about injuries in the playoffs, and to have a guy to come in, should things turn sour.
Tyler Toffoli
Tyler Toffoli is someone the Jets should have a hard look at. He’s a center, but is playing on the wing due to having great center depth. They didn’t want him on the third line instead of Adrian Kempe or the fourth line, so he’s on the wing.
Tyler has 35 points in 62 games. At over half a point per game, Toffoli would slot in nicely on the third line. The Jets are looking for some center security, and he could bring it.
Toffoli is signed at $4.6 Million a year for a few more years, and wouldn’t be a “rental”.

Some other guys…
Torrey Mitchell – Torrey Mitchell is yet another natural center who is playing on the wing. He could provide good depth, and put up a point here and there.
Christian Folin – Folin is one of my few defensemen who I have included. Folin would bring insurance and depth to the Winnipeg Jets. He doesn’t put up many points, but is a good depth player.
Adrian Kempe – Kempe is a young NHLer who has taken off. He has over half a point per game, and would slot in the Jets third line. The Jets could get their hands on him if they made the right offer.
