The Winnipeg Jets are currently floating among the bottom three teams in the Central Division. Yes, you read that correctly, Winnipeg is fifth out of seven other teams.
The Winnipeg Jets have dropped below the Dallas Stars, taking up fifth place in the Central Division. This isn’t exactly what it looks like, however. The Jets are one point behind Dallas, but our record is still not completely terrible, at 13-8-2. The reason we’re so low is because we have so many games in hand on other teams. We have an entire three games on Dallas, one game on Minnesota, and two on Nashville and Colorado.
Saying that, I don’t believe this necessarily excuses us from the fact of where we are. I don’t really care that we’re three games in hand and only one point behind. Not only does it look bad, but it is bad!
Our team should be at the top of the Central, competing for first with the Nashville Predators. Instead, we’re among the bottom, giving fans a real scare about what the playoffs have to bring, if we even get there.
Our second line has really picked up the slack in the last few games, (with an exception of our game against Pittsburgh) but our goaltending has been really iffy as of late, causing us to lose games we should’ve won, or at least taken to overtime.
If the Winnipeg Jets continue this downward trend, don’t be surprised to see some changes. A shakeup for our fourth line might be required, whether that means putting in Mason Appleton, someone else, or even making a trade, I’m not too sure. All I know is something needs to change.
With Nic Petan and Brenden Lemieux struggling to register points, don’t be surprised to see one of the two be reassigned to the Manitoba Moose following the recovery of Andrew Copp.
We’ll see where the Winnipeg Jets really sit after their game tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks…
