Winnipeg Jets Barely Squeak By Chicago Blackhawks
The Winnipeg Jets barely managed to take down the Chicago Blackhawks, winning 6-5 in what could be compared to a game of shinny.
The Winnipeg Jets and Chicago Blackhawks made tonight really interesting to watch, scoring a total of eleven goals in the entire game. The Jets were able to come away with a much needed win, lead by speedy forward Nikolaj Ehlers and sniper Patrik Laine.
First Period
It didn’t take the Winnipeg Jets long to get onto the board, less than two minutes in. Jacob Trouba received a pass from Mark Scheifele and took a shot which was stopped with a juicy rebound. Typical Laine, in the right place at the right time, shot the rebound in. Laine reached the 100 career goal tonight with the game’s first goal.
Chicago and Winnipeg traded goals back and forth for the next few. Marcus Kruger followed Laine not long after, but Nikolaj Ehlers stepped up to put us back up 2-1. John Hayden once again tied the game back up for Chicago, at 2-2.
Second Period
The Winnipeg Jets saw speedster Nikolaj Ehlers put them back ahead, with a slapshot from above the circles. Ehlers was absolutely on fire, and this was just his second of the game. Jacob Trouba followed less than fifty seconds later, putting Winnipeg up 4-2.
Jan Rutta kept Chicago in the game, getting it back to a one goal difference on a goal set up by David Kampf.
Third Period
Patrik Laine showed what kind of a player he is yet again. The youngster buried a goal that no goalie ever could’ve had a chance on. It was another one of his deadly goals that he’s had a ton of lately. This was his 18th of the month, making it the first time since Pavel Bure in 1994 to do such a thing.
Ehlers decided he wasn’t done, completing his hat trick of a breakaway goal, shot in the bottom left corner. Nikolaj came into this game with only five goals this season and left with eight. He has been underperforming this season, and this could be what snaps him out of the period of bad play.
Chicago didn’t go down without a fight, however. Dominik Kahun and Artem Anisimov stepped up near the end with two back to back goals. It wasn’t enough to do the trick though, giving Winnipeg the 6-5 win.
Final Thoughts on the match
Not going to lie, the game looked like pickup hockey, as I said earlier. The amount of costly defensive mistakes was the reason why the score was racked up so high. Not only that, but it’s fair to say neither goalie looked spectacular. Connor Hellebuyck let in a whole bunch of weak ones, which could’ve cost Winnipeg the game (thankfully it didn’t). Corey Crawford didn’t look solid either, but made a few good saves.
