Winnipeg Jets fans, we have some good news for you. Next year the Winnipeg Jets will partake in a fan favourite Heritage Classic.

Folks, mark your calendars for October 29th, 2019. The Winnipeg Jets are set to take part in another Heritage Classic, this time against the Calgary Flames.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the two Canadian teams would meet in the middle to play an outdoor game, settling with Mosaic Stadium. For those who don’t know, Mosaic Stadium is home to the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders. Many Winnipeggers may know of this stadium, as the rivalry between our Blue Bombers and the Roughriders is intense. The stadium normally holds about 33,350 people.

Well… wow. This definitely spices things up. Neither team will really be at home, so we’re bound to see plenty of fans from each side. Knowing our diehard fans, don’t be surprised at all to the blue, red, and white being sported at the game. Our fans travel across the continent (or the world to Finland for that matter…) to watch our team take to the ice. Expect WAY more Jets fans than at any other away game.

On the other hand, you may be interested to know how many Calgary fans to expect at this matchup. Well, the last time the Flames took part in a Heritage Classic was way back in 2011. Flames fans are going to be thirsty for this one for sure, so expect  to see just as many people coming from Calgary.

The environment is going to be different compared to our last one in 2016 for sure. This is because rather than seeing all Winnipeg Jets fans, we’ll get to see a split. This means rather than the crowd absolutely erupting when the Jets score, there will be a mix of boos and cheers. Same goes for Calgary goals.

Another big question lots of us are asking is, “Will they be getting new jerseys?” Well, don’t be surprised if they do another version of the heritage jersey.

You now may ask, “Why would they do this when the one from 2016 works perfectly fine?” Well there are two logical answers to this question. The first answer is if they make a new jersey, people will buy it, making them money. The second logical answer is that if the Jets aren’t wearing white this time, we will need to make new jerseys for the game.

Now it’s a bit too far away to say who’s going to win or to give my predictions on the game, however if the two teams were to take to the outdoor rink right now, it would be an unbelievably entertaining game. Both teams sit neck and neck in the standings, Calgary is just up on us by two points but we have two games in hand over them.
