It’s been 16 games since Nic Petan last suited up for the Winnipeg Jets, and things are not looking good for him at all.

Nic Petan hasn’t had much to show this season, making appearances in just 13 games and has struggled to find the scoresheet with just two assists. It’s been rough to say the least.

After being asked in an interview before the Winnipeg Jets took on the Anaheim Ducks if he’d welcome a change of scenery, the twenty-three year old forward admitted he’s always open to new opportunities:

"“It’s a tough answer, But it’s my fourth year here now and, like I said before, there’s opportunities to be had and things like that. A fresh start is a little bit of a tough wording, I’d say. But always looking forward to the next opportunity. It’s a touchy subject around the room in here. I think those things are out of my control. Opportunities are everywhere in this league. Whatever happens, it is what it is. I think those are the answers I’ve got to give.”"

For any player, especially a young player, sitting out for an extended period of time can really affect your mental game. Guys start to get it in their head that they’re becoming less and less a part of the team, and can become detached. A change of scenery is what Petan needs to get his career back on track.

To go more in depth, Nic only has a mere 5 goals and 18 assists for 23 points over his entire 108 career game span since being drafted in the second round in 2013. This is a kid who went from being one of the Winnipeg Jets most hyped prospects to a guy who’s a healthy scratch for 15 games straight and still remains goalless.

For Petan, a trade out of Winnipeg is long overdue. In my eyes this should’ve happened a long time ago when he still had more value. I honestly couldn’t even guess as to what he would go for, but it wouldn’t be much. I think it’d be smarter to use him as a piece in a trade if we needed to give it that last little push to get it done.
