The Winnipeg Jets have announced they have signed Jansen Harkins on a two-year deal. Here’s all you need to know about the new contract.
This offseason has been an interesting one for the Winnipeg Jets. They have completed many big deals including acquiring Paul Stastny from the Vegas Golden Knights and they have already signed the likes of Nathan Beaulieu, Mason Appleton, Nate Thompson and many more. With all that being said, the Jets have just announced another free agency signing.
The Jets have signed restricted free agent forward Jansen Harkins. The deal is over two years and is worth $1.45 million ($725,000 AAV).
The twenty-three-year-old Haskins is coming into this season after making his NHL debut in the 2019-2020 season on December 21st against the Minnesota Wild. He finished the regular season playing in 29 games with 2 goals, 5 assists, 5 penalty minutes and a -2 plus/minus.
Harkins regular season performance caught the attention of the Jets’ coaching staff and he was named to their 2020 postseason roster. During the postseason he played in three out of four games against the Calgary Flames. He even scored in his NHL postseason debut:
Before all of Harkins success with the Jets, he made his professional debut with the Manitoba Moose in 2016-2017. Until last year he has spent all of his professional career in the minors, including a six game stint with the Jacksonville IceMen of the ECHL in the 2017-2018 season. In his AHL career he has 82 points in 156 games played.
Before joining the Jets organization, Harkins played junior in the Western Hockey League for the Prince George Cougars. He was eventually selected by Winnipeg as the 47th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry draft.
On interesting note about the new Harkins contract is he will be eligible in the Seattle Kraken Expansion draft. The Kraken will be making their selections next June.
