The Winnipeg Jets have just loaned Skyler McKenzie to Germany to get some valuable playing time before the start of next season.

The Winnipeg Jets know that it may be a couple of months before we professional hockey back in North America. With that being said, the Jets have made an interesting move to loan one of their younger players to Europe to get some valuable game time under his belt.

The Jets have loaned twenty-two year old Skyler McKenize to EHC Freiburg, who compete in the DEL2. The DEL2 is the second division in the German hockey pyramid.

Skyler McKenize has yet to make his NHL Debut with the Jets. He was drafted in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Jets in the seventh round. He has played the past two seasons in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose.

The left winger has 17 goals, 22 assists and has a +2 plus/minus in 105 career games with the Moose. Before joining the Jets organization, McKenzie played junior as a member of the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League.

The German second division is set to kick off their season at the end of this week and it will be nice to see McKenzie back in action. Hopefully he plays well and can compete for a roster spot on the Jets this upcoming season.

McKenzie’s is starting the third year of his three year entry level contract. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native will be a restricted free agent next offseason and will look to impress Jets management before his contract expires.

There is a clause in this loan move that will allow McKenize to be released back to the Jets for the start of the upcoming 2021 season.
