Winnipeg Jets prospect Jared Moe begins his season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers tonight against Penn State.
Since the Tampa Bay Lightning lifted the Stanley Cup to conclude the 2019-2020 season, there has not been much hockey to watch. There are constant re-runs of games, but no live action. Most fans are stuck scrolling through social media to watch videos of Winnipeg Jets prospects and loanees play for their respective teams, but starting tonight fans may have a good chance to watch a Jets prospect in action.
Jared Moe and the Minnesota Golden Gophers begin their shortened college season against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. Est/ 7:30 p.m. CST. The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
The Jets selected Moe back in the sixth round of the 2018 draft (184th overall pick), while he was a member of the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL. He played two years with the Hawks before joining Minnesota last year.
Moe, currently in his sophomore season, had an absolutely outstanding campaign in 2019-2020. He had a 7-5-1 record with a 2.46 goals against average and .915 save percentage and one shutout. Moe’s performances earned him a selection on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Jared Moe will look to be the next great University of Minnesota alumni to apply his trade in the NHL. The UofM has produced many great players, including current Jets’ captain Blake Wheeler. Other notable alumni who are currently playing in the NHL include Phil Kessel, Nate Schmidt, Brady Skjei, Nick Leddy, Nick Bjugstad, Erik Haula and Erik Johnson.
If you are starving for live hockey this will definitely be a great matchup to watch. It will be interesting to keep an eye on Moe’s performances throughout the rest of the season. He will definitely be looking to earn a contract with the Jets.
As of now the Golden Gophers have an eight game schedule that leads to the mid December. The rest of Minnesota’s schedule can be seen here.
