Our latest loan report comes from Russia, where Winnipeg Jets prospect Mikhail Berdin is on loan and applying his trade for SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL.
As we wait for professional hockey to come back to North America, some Winnipeg Jets players are currently on loan in Europe getting some gametime in before the NHL and AHL campaigns start. One player who is performing well in early season action is Mikhail Berdin.
Berdin is currently on loan with SKA St. Petersburg who play in the KHL, which is Russia’s top division. It looks like Berdin is considered SKA’s number one goaltender. He has played in 13 of his club’s 27 games. Berdin has posted nice stat line of a 6-3-2 record with a 2.49 Goals Against average and a .916 Save Percentage. Berdin’s performances has helped push SKA to the top of their division.
So far, the former 2016 sixth round pick has had an interesting path in his career. He played in Russia until 2016 and then he made the jump to play for the Sioux Fall Stampede in the USHL. He played two seasons for the Stampede then signed with the Jets organization. In 2018-2019 he split his time in the AHL, with the Manitoba Moose, and in the ECHL, with the Jacksonville Icemen.
Last year Berdin played a full season with the Moose. He played in 21 games, carried a 20-21-1 record, 2.89 GAA, and a .916 Sv%. The twenty-two year old was definitely a bright spot on a Moose team that finished last in their division.
His stats this campaign with SKA are good and are a positive sign for the future. The Jets look to have many great prospects in the goaltending department and it will be interesting to see if Berdin can challenge for a spot on the Winnipeg Jets in 2021.
