The Winnipeg Jets ECHL affiliate, the Jacksonville Icemen, made headlines this week as they announced big name additions to their ownership group.

It is always interesting to see what is happening with the Winnipeg Jets minor league affiliates. There is a lot of exciting news surronding the Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL. They are the first team in the Jets organization to get their season underway when they faceoff against the Florida Everblades Friday night at 7:30 p.m. EST.

In anticipation of the season, the Icemen made huge news when they announced that three big name athletes have joined as part owners of the team. Those three athletes are Tim Tebow, Myles Jack and Reggie Hayward.

Most people are already familiar with the name Tim Tebow. Tebow rose to stardom with the Florida Gators football team. As a member of the Gators he won two national championships and a Heisman Trophy, as the best player in college football. Tebow did make a brief jump to the NFL, but unfortunately it did not pan out.

The now thirty-three year old is currently a football analyst, author, motivational speaker, minor league baseball player in the New York Mets organization and now a Jacksonville Icemen owner.

You may be less familiar with the other two names. Myles Jack is a currently a linebacker with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is in his fifth year in the NFL and a captain on the team. Reggie Hayward played in the NFL from 2001-2009. He started his career with the Denver Broncos, but retired with the Jaguars.

It is interesting to note that Tebow and company are not the only athletes that are current owners of the Icemen. They will be joining Colorado Rockies first baseman and Jacksonville born, Daniel Murphy, who already has an ownership stake in the Icemen.

The full press release and the list of the full Jacksonville Icemen owners can be found here.
