The newest report from sources around the NHL states that Winnipeg Jets hockey may be coming back as soon as the middle of January.

It feels like forever ago, the door closed on the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs and the Tampa Bay Lightning were crowned Stanley Cup Champions. When the Winnipeg Jets were eliminated many fans did not know when they would see their beloved Jets back on the ice again.

TSN analyst, Pierre Lebrun, along with the Athletic broke the news yesterday that they NHL has cleared their financial hurdles and now the NHL along with the NHLPA can start planning the 2021 season.

Lebrun states that the NHL is aiming to start the season on January 13. You can read Lebrun’s full article on the Athletic here (paid subscription required).

This is extremely exciting news for all hockey fans around the globe! In just a little bit more than a month, the Winnipeg Jets should be back in action.

The 2021 NHL season will definitely be one like no other. It looks like we may see a shortened season of 52 or 56 games for each team, in order to get the 2021-2022 season started on time and the NHL back on their regular schedule.

The divisions may have to be realigned due to the travel restrictions due to the global pandemic. We could see the Jets competing in an all-Canadian division, which could make for some great viewing.

It will be interesting to see the final plans on how the upcoming season will transpire and those plans will hopefully come in the coming weeks. Nevertheless, this is great news for the Winnipeg Jets and every NHL franchise.
