Nick Shore played with the Winnipeg Jets at the end of last season, but it looks like his stint with the Jets may have come to an end.

In early December of 2019, the Toronto Maple Leafs placed their fourth line center, Nick Shore, on waivers. Most people did not think the former 2011 NHL Entry Draft third round pick would clear waivers and subsequently, the Winnipeg Jets claimed the at the time twenty seven year old Shore.

In the remainder of the campaign, Shore performed well for the Jets. He played in a bottom-six role and dressed in 42 games, where he scored one goal and picked up two assists. This was as advertised from Shore. He is not someone who picks up a tremendous amount of points, but he plays a solid defensive game.

Shore even dressed in all four qualifying round games for the Jets against Calgary. He finished the qualifying series with zero points and a -4 plus/minus.

Before free agency started, the Winnipeg Jets decided not to extend Shore and he was left on the open market and became a free agent in early October.

Unfortunately, Shore did not pick up any major interest and decided to sign a contract with HK Dukla in Slovakia. Currently this season, he has four goals and six assists in five games for the Slovakian hockey club.

According to one report, his contract with Dukla runs until the end of 2020, which may open the door for his to return to North America for the start of the NHL season.

The Jets looked to have filled Shore’s role when they signed veteran forward, Nate Thompson, on the second day of free agency.

With Shore heading overseas to get some game time and the Jets signing Thompson to a bottom six center role, it looks clear that Shore’s days competing for the Jets have come to an end.
