Winnipeg Jets: Top Three Jets Players on the “Nice List”
As we approach the most wonderful time of the year along with Christmas, here are three Winnipeg Jets players that are on the “nice” list.
As we have all heard before, “He’s making a list, he’s checking it twice, he’s gonna find out who’s naughty or nice, Santa Claus is coming to town.” It’s the time of the season, where most people get asked if they have been nice or naughty this year and if they made Santa’s list. We thought it would be fun to rank the top Winnipeg Jets on the “nice” list.
Players could make the list for their contributions to the Jets last season and they could get bonus points for their leadership and charity work.
Without further ado, here is our list for the top three Winnipeg players on the “nice” list:
3. Mark Scheifele
The joint leading scorer on last year’s team, Mark Scheifele ranks third on our list. He has been the Jets assistant captain for the past four seasons and is considered one of the best and most consistent players on the team.
Scheifele was originally drafted by the Jets in the first round with their seventh pick in the 2011 NHL Entry draft. The twenty-seven-year-old did not put up a tremendous amount of points in his first season in Winnipeg, but definitely showed he had what it takes to perform at the top level.
Since the start of the 2016-2017 season, Scheifele is more than a point per game player. He put on a show in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs when he had 20 points in 17 games. His highest point total came back in 2018-2019, where he had 84 points in 82 games.
The two-time All-star has been an integral part of the Jets since he joined the club in 2013 and Scheifele will be a key part of the Jets’ success in the future.
2. Connor Hellebuyck
Connor Hellebuyck was the star of the season last year for the Jets and the Jets’ success in the near future rides on him.
Looking back the Jets had the steal of the draft in 2012 when they drafted Hellebuyck as the number 130th overall selection in the fifth round. Each year it feels like the twenty-seven-year-old gets better and it is something everyone in the Winnipeg Jets organization loves to see.
Hellebuyck took home the Vezina trophy last season as the best goalie in the NHL and was also an All-Star, made the First All-Star Team, and led the NHL in shutouts with six. In 2019-2020 the Michigan native posted a 31-21-5 record with a 2.57 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.
The Jets need Hellebuyck on his “A” game to have a successful season in 2021 and he is someone who has been nice to every Jets fan.
Blake Wheeler
Blake Wheeler started his career with the Boston Bruins after attending the University of Minnesota. Wheeler was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers, in their last season before they moved to Winnipeg and he has been with the Winnipeg Jets Franchise ever since.
He earned an “A” on his sweater in the 2013-2014 season and then was promoted to Captain for the 2016-2017 campaign. He is known as one of the best leaders in the NHL and plays a tenacious game.
Wheeler can also score some timely goals and has put up an immense amount of points for the Jets. Over his 13 year NHL career, the thirty-four-year-old has picked up 264 goals, 497 assists (761 points), and has a +100 plus/minus. That is a great stat line that any player would love.
Besides being the Jets captain and leader on the team, the thirty-four-year-old is a great person in the community. Wheeler runs an annual event called: “Ride Inside: Come Wheel with the Wheelers.”
This event is outstanding and raises money for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. As of November 6th, the Winnipeg Jets said that the Charity has raised $362,000 this year alone, which is absolutely outstanding and will definitely change lives.
Despite not only being a fantastic hockey player, Blake Wheeler is a great person and takes the number spot on our “nice” list.
