The Winnipeg Jets’ first-round draft pick in 2020, Cole Perfetti, is in action tonight as Canada takes on Russia in a pre-WJC exhibition game.

Tonight most people have their first opportunity to see Cole Perfetti in action since he was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets as the tenth overall pick in the 2020 NHL entry draft when Canada faces off against Russia at 5:00 p.m. Central Time today.

Originally Canada was supposed to play Sweden in their first tuneup game, but due to some positive COVID-19 tests involving staff and players around the tournament, the IIHF had to rearrange the pre-competition schedule.

Instead of teams playing two tuneup games, each team will play one game. Germany and Sweden will not play any pre-tournament games due to their mandatory quarantine.

Since the final roster was announced for Team Canada, Perfetti has consistently found himself on a line with Connor McMichael and Peyton Krebs during their practices. McMichael was apart of the Canada team that won Gold in 2020 and Krebs, along with Perfetti, are making their first appearances on this prestigious team.

of these players are extremely fun to watch and it will be interesting to see how they perform in a tough pre-tournament matchup against an always tough Russia squad.

After tonight’s game, Canada will turn their attention to Saturday night. They are scheduled to take on Germany in their first game of the World Juniors, in what will be an extremely interesting matchup. Last week Germany had eight players test positive for the virus and the Canada game will be their second game of back-to-back games, while Canada looks to be at full strength and is looking to take home back-to-back golds.
