Winnipeg Jets’ prospect, Cole Perfetti, is currently representing Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship and scored his first goal of the competition.

Yesterday evening, Canada faced off against Switzerland in their third game of the 2021 WJC. Canada, who features Winnipeg Jets‘ first round draft pick, Cole Perfetti, was looking to remain undefeated in the tournament, while Switzerland was looking to pick up their first win.

Perfetti was looking to improve his game after not having the greatest of performances in Canada’s second game against Slovakia. He had no shots, a penalty, and a -1 plus/minus in Canada’s 3-1 win over Slovakia.

This game went exactly how many people predicted. Switzerland did not put up much of a fight against the pre-tournament favorites and Canada won the game 10-0. The great news is Perfetti bounced back from his performance against Slovakia and played well last night.

Perfetti got his first point of the night at the start of the second period. He assisted on Dylan Cozens’ powerplay goal to give Canada a 2-0 lead. Perfetti had an absolutely beautiful one-touch pass from the point to Cozens, who redirected the puck past the Switzerland goaltender and then slotted it in the net.

Perfetti finally scored his first goal of the tournament in the third period to give Canada their eighth goal of the game and this goal was a thing of beauty.

Canada was working the puck in the corner in the offensive zone. Perfetti found quiet ice just under the o-zone faceoff dot. He was given a pass, then he stickhandled quickly and released a shot. The puck flew over the goalie’s shoulder to give Perfetti his first WJC goal.

Perfetti finished the contest with two shots, one goal, one assist, a +1 plus/minus in 13:30 of time on ice. Perfetti and Canada will be playing their final game in the preliminary round of the WJC, tomorrow (December 31) at 5:00 p.m. Central against Finland.

This is a game that Winnipeg Fans will not want to miss. Perfetti’s fellow Jets prospects, Ville Heinola and Henri Nikkanen both represent Finland.
