Winnipeg Jets: Perfetti Scores in Canada’s Semifinal Rout against Russia
In the first game of the World Junior Championship semifinal round, Canada faced off against Russia and Winnipeg Jets prospect, Cole Perfetti, scored.
The first semifinal of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship was a rematch of last year’s gold medal game, which featured Canada vs Russia. This game was definitely a must-see game for everyone around the hockey world, but the Winnipeg Jets were most likely paying close attention to this one because the Jets 2020 NHL Entry Draft first round pick, Cole Perfetti, features for Canada.
Canada dominated Russia the whole game and completely ran away with the contest. Canada scored an early goal in the first minute of the game and scored two more first period goals en route to a 5-0 win.
Cole Perfetti scored Canada’s third goal on the powerplay. Perfetti received the puck to the left of Russia’s goalie near the point and had space to the net and he walked it in towards the goal.
Perfetti then released a shot a couple of feet of the ice to the glove side of Russia’s goalie. It was a perfect shot between the goalie’s pad and his glove and the puck subsequently found the back of the net.
The goal can be seen in the tweet below, courtesy of @TSN_Sports:
This goal was an absolutely perfect shot from Perfetti. Perfetti did not register a point on Canada’s fourth or fifth goals and finished the game with one goal, no assists, and one shot.
Canada and Perfetti will be facing off against the winner of Finland vs United States in the Gold Medal Game tomorrow night. The Finland, United States game is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. Central Time tonight.
