Jack Roslovic asked for a trade from the Winnipeg Jets. There could be a spot for the taking in training camp, which David Gustaffson could take.

All of the news surrounding the Winnipeg Jets in recent days has involved Jack Roslovic and that he would not and has not reported to training camp and that he has asked to be traded. As the old saying goes, “when one door closes, another opens.”

This could be the case for David Gustaffson. A bottom-six role may have opened up on the Jets and Gustaffson could find himself in the starting lineup come opening night, with a solid training camp.

Gustaffson was loaned to Tingsrydys, in Sweden, this offseason to get some game time before the 2021 season began. He played well having 17 points in 16 games, but he, unfortunately, returned from his loan injured.

The good news is that Gustaffson should be close to returning from his injury. He participated in practice today in a non-contact sweater.

Gustafsson returning will only add to the competition for bottom-six forward spots and he could provide the Jets a better look than Roslovic gave the Jets in recent years.

Although the twenty-year-old Gustafsson has never picked up a great number of points throughout his young hockey career, he has great hockey sense.

The Jets can rely on Gustafsson to make a smart play in any circumstance and it could be a major difference between winning and losing a game.

Only time will tell when Gustafsson will return from his injury, but with solid performances throughout the rest of training camp, he could be a nice replacement for Roslovic, if Roslovic does in fact get traded.
