Winnipeg Jets forward Jack Roslovic is not in training camp. What would a trade to the Vegas Golden Knights for him look like?

Jack Roslovic is not at Winnipeg Jets training camp as he awaits either a new contract, trade, or both. I have two general predictions regarding potential trades.

First, I do not think that Roslovic will be traded in a one-for-one deal as that not will bring enough of a return. Second, I think General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff will look for prospects who fit specific needs rather than trying to get immediate help.

Here is the potential Roslovic trade with the Golden Knights:

Why This Deal Makes Sense for the Golden Knights

The Golden Knights have salary cap issues starting with goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. He will make $7 million as a backup to Robin Lehner. Laurent Brossoit gives the Golden Knights a cheaper, capable backup goalie.

Roslovic does not have the upside of Peyton Krebs, but he is further along at present. He would have a chance to play on the Golden Knights second or third line, possibly at center, and will be re-signed to a reasonable contract.

While Sami Niku would likely be the seventh or eighth defenseman on the Jets’ depth chart, it is important to remember that he was the AHL top defenseman in 2017-18 and has considerable upside.

Why This Deal Makes Sense for the Winnipeg Jets

Losing Brossoit is a risk for the Jets, but Connor Hellebuyck played the most games in the NHL last season. The Jets could sign a free agent back up or go with Eric Comrie or Mikhail Berdin as their backup this season.

Peyton Krebs is the key piece coming back in the deal for the Jets. He was Canada’s third leading scorer in the recent World Junior Hockey Championship, and projects as a second line center at the NHL level. As a bonus, Krebs played his junior hockey in Winnipeg for the Winnipeg Ice.

Nicholas Hague is a massive defenseman at six foot six inches, 214 pounds. He split last season between the Golden Knights and the AHL. He demonstrated a readiness to play a bottom pair role in the NHL and gives the Jets something they have lacked on the back end since 2018 – size and toughness.
