Winnipeg Jets prospect, Jared Moe, has found it tough to get game time at the University of Minnesota this year. On Monday, he finally got his first start.

So far this season, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are currently unbeatable at the collegiate level. They are 10-0-0 and are ranked as the number one team in the country. Unfortunately for Jared Moe, who the Winnipeg Jets selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, he has struggled to get minutes in net.

The fact that Moe has not played much this season is totally out of his control. Senior goaltender, Jack LaFontaine was named the Gophers’ starting goalie on opening night and the Gophers won and stayed with the hot goalie since.

Going into Monday night’s game against Arizona State University, LaFontaine played all of the Gophers prior games and was undefeated but, head coach, Bob Motzko decided to switch it up for the second game of a back-to-back series and give Moe a chance.

Moe and the Gophers kept their undefeated season alive and skated to a 6-4 victory over the Sun Devils.

Moe stopped 20 of 24 shots faced against in his first start of the season and played well. He even picked up an assist on Sampo Ranta’s goal that tied the game up at three in the second period.

Motzko gave Moe a glowing remark after the game saying that “we had to get him in there.” (Quote courtesy of Gophersports.com)

It will be interesting to see how much Moe plays throughout the rest of the season if the Gophers stay on the terrific run they are on.

The undefeated Gophers will be back in action on Saturday night (January 9) at 4:00 p.m. Central Time against the University of Wisconsin. The University of Minnesota’s full schedule can be found here.
