Winnipeg Jets: Predicting Nikolaj Ehlers 2021 Season Stats
Nikolaj Ehlers has cemented himself as one of the top forwards on the Winnipeg Jets. Here is a prediction on how Ehlers will perform in the upcoming season.
In the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft the Winnipeg Jets decided to draft a 1996 born forward from Aalborg, Denmark named Nikolaj Ehlers with their ninth overall selection. This pick made Ehlers the second-highest draft pick from Denmark and the Jets had high hopes that he would become one of the Jets’ stars of the future.
Back then, Ehlers was known for his blazing speed and his great shot with a quick release. Fast forward six and a half years and 5 seasons with the Jets, Ehlers is still known for those same things.
Winnipeg Jets
Ehlers is now a top-six forward for the Jets and his speed makes him a tough player to match up against. In each season that passes Ehlers has had at least 15 goals and a plus rating in the plus/minus statistic.
In 2019-2020, Ehlers was on track for his best statistical season in the NHL. In 71 games played Ehlers had 25 goals, 33 assists, and a +14 plus/minus.
In this upcoming campaign, it looks like Ehlers may be getting new linemates. So far in Jets training camp, Ehlers has been moved to the left wing on Jets’ “first line” with Scheifele at center and Wheeler on the right side.
I believe this line move for Ehlers will help him in the upcoming season. He will be taking Kyle Connor’s spot on the top-line with two of the most dynamic players on the Jets, Scheifele and Wheeler.
This may be one of Ehlers’ best seasons in the goals per game category, as his new linemates pick up many assists. I predict Ehlers will have 21 goals and 21 assists for 42 points in 2021.
