The Winnipeg Jets had a great win to open their season against the Calgary Flames last night. Here are three talking points from last night’s Jets victory.
Oh what a night, last night was! The 2021 season opener for the Winnipeg Jets against the Calgary Flames was as good as a game any hockey fan could ask for.
The Jets stormed back from a two-goal deficit to win in dramatic overtime fashion against the Flames. This game was a great way for the Jets to start their new 2021 campaign, while Calgary left Bell MTS Place with their heartbroken.
Below are three talking points from the Jets 4-3 dramatic opening game victory over the Flames:
3. Jets get some revenge
As I mentioned in yesterday’s game preview, the Jets had a fantastic opportunity to get some revenge over the same team that knocked them out of last year’s postseason.
The Jets did exactly that in last night’s victory. They played hard, fast, and physically to take a majority of the points from the game.
Although yesterday’s win is not going to fix the heartache of the Jets getting knocked out of the Edmonton bubble by the Flames in August, it is an extremely positive start to the season.
This win is a step in the right direction for the Jets in rewriting the disappointment of the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers.
2. What a comeback
After the first period in last night’s game, many people feared the worst. The Jets did not have their game in the first frame and the Flames controlled most of the play and had some great scoring opportunities. The Jets went into the locker room after one trailing 3-1 including getting outshot thirteen to six.
The Jets did not let their first period performance affect the rest of their game and they went right to work in the second period in staging a comeback.
Jets assistant captain, Mark Scheifele started the comeback 34 seconds into the second frame with a rebound goal. The Jets then kept their foot on the pedal and were finally rewarded later in the period. The Jets got a man advantage and Kyle Connor tied the game on a powerplay.

It was great to see the Jets’ no-quit attitude and fight in the first game of 2021 and this game could be the spark of some great Jets performances right out of the gate in the new season.
