The Winnipeg Jets had a glorious opportunity last night, on home ice, to increase their winning streak and point streak to four games, but the Edmonton Oilers had other ideas at Bell MTS Place.

The Jets started off the game strong. Right off the opening faceoff, the Jets were the dominant side. They looked fast and were awarded with a goal by Adam Lowry.

Unfortunately for Winnipeg, Mikko Koskinen stood tall in the Oilers’ net and the Jets could not get a second goal past him, the remainder of the first. At the end of one, the Jets were leading 1-0 and were outshooting the Oilers 16-9.

Every time the Winnipeg Jets took the lead, the Edmonton Oilers were resilient and answered the Jets

Edmonton woke up and found their game in the second frame. Nugent-Hopkins scored 21 seconds into the period to tie the game. Then in the final six minutes of the second, Kyle Turris gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead after two.

Just like we watched over prior Jets games, the Jets battled back down a goal in the third. Nikolaj Ehlers tied the game with under seven minutes in the game and Blake Wheeler gave the Jets the 3-2 lead with less than 5 minutes remaining in the contest.

All looked well for the Jets, but the Oilers fought back. Yamamoto evened the score again with 3:05 remaining. A minute later, Dylan DeMelo took a high-sticking penalty and gave one of the best powerplays a man advantage in the dying moments of the game.

Winnipeg killed the penalty off, but the Oilers still controlled the puck. With only seconds left, Connor McDavid took the puck behind Winnipeg’s goal and sent a beautiful pass to Leon Draisaitl, who was standing alone in the slot.

Draisatl ripped the puck and the Oilers scored with less than one second remaining in regulation to take all two points and the 4-3 win.

This goal was absolutely heartbreaking for the Jets. This was a great game to watch and the Jets deserved a point from the contest, but the Oilers snatched it in the last moment of the game.

Luckily for the Jets, they have a chance to avenge last night’s loss when they face off against Edmonton tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. Central Time.
